A Shankar Film
Protagonist(s): Rajinikanth, Aishwarya Rai
Antagonist(s): Danny Densongpa
Run-time: 2 hours 57 minutes
After ten years the dedicated Artificial Intelligence researcher Doctor Vaseekaran (Rajinikanth) finally managed to create his masterpiece in the form of a robot with the strength, talents and creative skills of a hundred men. But his joy is short lived as his attempts at donating the android robot Chitti (also portrayed by Rajinikanth) to the Army is foiled by his old mentor Doctor Bohra (Danny Densongpa).
This Tamil film's attempts at being hyper modern makes it look and sound far less impressive than it could have. And the length could have been cut in near half by eliminating the song and dance, and a few pointless side stories and instances which had little relevance on the main plot.
The computer effects were nearly painful to watch, as the work looks half finished or rushed rather than properly integrated. The physical stunts and effects were far more impressive, even though there were a few instances where the car chases were more incredible than Blues Brothers or Speed in what the cars were capable of. Many of the effects were clearly inspired by the Matrix film series with an Indian twist.
The romantic undertones were very confusing and in many cases attempts at invoking jealousy were obviously set up to fail.
Its only saving grace is that it is seemingly not meant to be a serious film, as evident by the humorous misunderstandings occurring by Chitti taking things literally.
I recommend that those who watch this film have some understanding of Indian Culture, but can also be seen as a study in physical effects looking more impressive than computer generated effects.
Reviewing different things; food, films, music, books, games etc. It is said that those who can't do; teach. Those who can't teach; critique.
