"Guardians of the Galaxy" Review

"Guardians of the Galaxy" Review

9/10

2014
A James Gunn Film
Protagonist(s): Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper
Antagonist(s): Lee Pace, Karen Gillian
Run-time: 2 hours 2 minutes

When a young recently orphaned boy is abducted by aliens, this leads him down the path of a Mercenary. Little does he know the adventure he has ahead of him.

This film is part of the second tier of the Marvel cinematic universe tied in with the Avengers (Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Captain America), and reveals the third of the Infinity Stones while sharing the existence of three more as did the extra snippet from the end of Thor: The Dark World. More so, it opens up a far grander venue of adventure or enemies by showing a lot of alien species and previous close encounters beyond the Nine Realms under the control of the Asgard.

The film appears to have been made primarily for 3D, which is a shame for those who haven't entered the wonderful world of 3D television entertainment systems.

The main protagonist attempts to be humorous with metaphors and popular culture reference which go over the heads of most of the aliens, creating a wholly different source of amusement. He is also the source of plenty of 'Awesome Hits' on mix tape and Walkman, which serve as transitional background music as well as foreground music.

The effects are awesome, the plot is excellent, the comedy is good, and the acting talent is excellent.

The snippet at the end of the end credits is not worth the wait, and can be skipped.

I recommend this film to any and all Marvel fans.
