"Stargate SG-1" Review Season 03, Episode 01, Into the Fire

After learning that their cryogenic sleep was a ruse instigated by Hathor, SG-1 is faced with the choice of which will become host to a Goa'uld. Meanwhile back at the SGC Colonel Makepeace rushes back with information given by the Tok'ra concerning the whereabouts of SG-1. A rescue operation is soon under way.
This episode introduces the existence of energy barriers which are used to contain rather than defend.
It also introduces tower turrets with more power than staff weapons and better accuracy over greater range. Though the relatively slow fire speed and projectile speed apparently makes hitting a moving target very difficult.
Another introduction is the 'Needle', a Glider which was made to pass through the Stargate, but which had fallen out of use over the past century.
Another bit of information is that a Goa'uld is very vulnerable immediately after insertion, and freezing the host with cryogenics will kill it without leaving the tracer which normally marks former hosts.
The plot is good, the acting talent is good, the special effects are a little more prominent than normal as the Goa'uld animatronic puppet is replaced by CGI, and the shield must have taken a bit of work.

A change has been made in regards to the Adult status of the Blog, due to the reviews on Alcoholic Beverages, and some for the violent games and films reviewed. Wouldn't want to set a bad example.
