"Stargate SG-1" Review Season 02, Episode 05, Need

While monitoring a mining world of the Goa'uld, Doctor Jackson notices a woman about to commit suicide by jumping off a cliff and can't help but prevent it. Discovered by guards, SG-1 is arrested and put to work in the mines as punishment for being liars and thieves.

This episode introduces two concepts. The first being that there are worlds where the Goa'uld are killed but humans pose as them to keep from arousing suspicion of the others, thereby enjoying a relatively obscure existence running the planet in exchange for shipping Naquadah through the gate at designated times.

The second concept is that the Sarcophagus is dangerous. Using it on occasion to heal mortal wounds is all well and good, but much like a drug it becomes addictive and leads to irrational thought process and a change in priority. This was likely a plot device to keep from acquiring one for the SGC and having a machine capable of curing everyone from anything. There would be no sense of risk if we knew that a brief rest in a box would cure even the recently dead.

The plot is decent, the acting talent is good, the effects are moderately shown and well integrated as usual.
