After being stunned and waking on slabs in unknown uniforms in an unknown room, SG-1 meets a local man and after a disturbing conversation returns to Earth. During the post mission medical examination discover that they are not exactly human, but machine. They are forced to return to the underground facility where they were stunned when their power comes close to depletion, and are informed that it is impossible to reverse the process.
There is a scene which might have borrowed the effects from "Terminator 2", where a forearm is sliced open to reveal working mechanics beneath the skin. Very dramatic.
The race of one mechanical man is introduced here, and will be mentioned and seen again later. But the technology will not be a permanent feature, which is a little sad as it would be very cool to have a robot on the team.
The civilization in question predates the known period of time when the Goa'uld found Earth, suggesting that humans have ventured through the Stargate before Earth was taken. The name of the planet and people; Alteir and Alteirans respectively, are also eerily similar to the Ancients who are in part named for Atlantis; Alteran. But there is no known connection between them.
It also brings up an interesting dilemma; would conscious robotic entities have any rights under human law?
The plot is good, the acting talent is good, the special effects are modest but good.
