"Stargate Sg-1" Review Season 01, Episode 17, Solitudes

When SG-1 is attacked soon after arriving on their designated mission world, they quickly dial Earth. On Earth, only Doctor Jackson and Teal'c are flung through the overcharged gate in the SGC, and the power couplings explode, disconnecting the gate before Captain Carter and Colonel O'Neill arrive. A little later, the two missing members of SG-1 awake in an ice cave with no idea where they are or where the rest of their team is, and with no visible means of powering or dialling the gate.

While watching this episode something struck me once more, and I believe it significant to comment. When getting incoming wormholes, SGC seems to get the Garage Door Opener signal before the wormhole is formed, confirming the identity of the travellers before they have travelled. How this can be is beyond me, but it seems like a slip up in the plot or timing.

This episode also introduces the concept and physics fact that energy does not disappear, but has to go somewhere even if the destination isn't obvious.

The plot is good, the acting talent is good, the special effects are modestly used as usual.
