"Stargate SG-1" Review Season 01, Episode 02, Enemy Within

After the return of the teams designated SG-1 and SG-2 from Chulak, the stronghold of the Goa'uld known as Apophis, Stargate Command attempts to mount expeditions to new worlds but are constantly interrupted by incoming wormholes from the Goa'uld. Teal'c, the now former First Prime to Apophis is questioned of his knowledge, and Major Kawalsky suffers from mysterious headaches and black-outs.

Much of the episode centers around bureaucratic paranoia, and attempting to further science over the interests of the individual. This later becomes a running theme through the series, and leads to a great deal of needless bloodshed and death.

This is the introduction of three concepts: First; All the human aliens spread around the galaxy were seeded from the peoples of Earth as hosts, Jaffa, or slaves. Second; Though they themselves claim otherwise, the Goa'uld retains the memories of its host. Third; the Goa'uld are born with the memories of those who came before them, genetic memory.

The plot is good, and twisted enough to be interesting. The effects have been limited to flashing eyes, the event horizon, light animatronics and an instance of something moving under the skin. The acting talent is good, though one or two aren't quite as committed to their characters as the rest.
