"Stargate SG-1" Season 01, Episode 03, Emancipation

While on a routine exploration mission SG-1 saves the life of a young man from a pack of wild dogs. The young man is very grateful, but upon discovering that Captain Samantha Carter is a woman things take an unexpected and unwelcome turn.
Once again alien cultures are presented as speaking fluent English even when they culturally and geographically should not know it even before being relocated by the Goa'uld. A plot shortcut, I am sure. Spending the entire episode learning the language, having Doctor Daniel Jackson translating, or making the actors take language lessons in a possible extinct language would be too time consuming and boring.
The episode also introduces the recurring theme of the peoples of Earth trying to impose their views onto other cultures. It went well in this episode, but not all cultures are quite as accepting.
Additionally, it is one of the few episodes where close quarters combat is shown. For the most part all battles involve shooting some kind of weapon at distances farther than five meters.
The acting talent is acceptable, the effects are low level physical stunts and pyrotechnics, the plot is more or less a culturally different Romeo & Juliet.
