"Nine Months" Review
8/10
1995
A Chris Columbus Film
Protagonist(s): Hugh Grant, Julianne Moore, Tom Arnold, Joan Cusack, Jeff Goldblum, Robin Williams
Run-time: 1 hour 43 minutes
When the perfect life of Child Psychologist Samuel Faulkner (Hugh Grant) is upset with the news that his girlfriend of five years (Julianne Moore) is pregnant, he struggles to come to terms with it and adapt to the idea. But sometimes a man has to do what a man has to do.
This film is a remake of the French 1993 film "Neuf Mois", which has the same plot as well as the same name (once translated). This version is naturally adapted to suit the change of venue, and features the comedic talents of Tom Arnold and Robin Williams to add some comedic spice to an otherwise dramatic romance film.
The comedy is primarily reactions to strange situations and a poor set of language skills which confuse quite a few words with humorous yet benign results. There are a few slapstick scenes mixed in for variety. The effects are limited to tricks of perspective and out of shot action. The acting talent was excellent.
I recommend this film for convincing soon-to-be or prospective fathers that though change might be daunting it isn't the end of the world (which won't happen until a few billion years, and should I be wrong no one will think of this post in their last moments and no one will be left behind to mock me).
Reviewing different things; food, films, music, books, games etc. It is said that those who can't do; teach. Those who can't teach; critique.
