"K-PAX" Review

"K-PAX" Review

10/10

2001
An Iain Softley Film
Protagonist(s): Kevin Spacey, Jeff Bridges
Run-time: 2 hours

When Psychiatrist Dr. Mark Powell (Jeff Bridges) is given a patient who believes himself to be an alien, his conviction in what is true is shaken time and again through nearly any test. The supposed alien who calls himself prot (Kevin Spacey) is from the planet K-PAX, and is not restrained about telling the truth as he knows it.

This is my favourite kind of film. The kind where the characters and audience is left to wonder about the truth of what happens in the plot. "Is this man really an alien? Or is he simply incredibly smart and lucky? Is there more to this than meets the eye?"

There's not much in the way of violence nor sex, which isn't necessarily a bad point even if those are things which draw attention. There is plenty of insanity, given that a majority of the plot takes place in or around a Psychiatric Institution.

The effects are excellent. The plot is good. The acting talent is excellent. What comedy has been included is well timed, as is the transition between confusion and understanding.

I recommend this film to anyone.
