"Erik the Viking" Review

"Erik the Viking" Review

8/10

1989
A Terry Jones Film
Protagonist(s): Tim Robbins, Freddie Jones, Tim McInnerny, Imogen Stubbs
Antagonist(s): John Cleese, Anthony Sher
Run-time: 1 hour 47 minutes (original cinema release), 1 hour 15 minutes (2006 DVD release)

When Erik the Viking (Tim Robbins) discovers he has no taste for raping and pillaging, he sets out on an expedition to petition the Gods to end Ragnarok.

The film is loosely based on the book "The Saga of Erik the Viking" written by the Director six years earlier.

While the film sounds like it could be fairly gory and violent, there is surprisingly little. It is mostly a comedy.

The effects are mediocre but well timed and humorously arranged to appear deliberate. The comedy is good. The plot is amusing but confusing. The acting talent is good.

I recommend this film for Monty Python enthusiasts.
