"You've Got Mail" Review

"You've Got Mail" Review

8/10

1998
A Nora Ephron Film
Protagonist(s): Tom Hanks, Meg Ryan
Run-time: 1 hour 59 minutes

When an online friendship develops into something more, two completely opposite personalities find that they have more in common than they thought.

This film is both a cautionary tale and a best case scenario for finding love online. You cannot know who is on the other end no matter how frank they might appear.

The plot is entertaining and well written. The acting talent is good. The digital animation at the start of the film starts off fairly basic and in a single framed scene turns into live action. It was strictly speaking not necessary for the plot, but I suppose it was due to the digital nature of the film.

The film also features the epic David versus Goliath struggle between small shops and massive chain stores, and the possible ethics involved in said struggle.

But mainly this is a romance film. The Internet could be swapped for anonymous pen pals through a third party and the film would still have been the same.

I recommend this for semi-romantic evenings where the only demand is that there be no violent car chases or such disruptive things.
