"X-Men Origins: Wolverine" Review
8/10
2009
A Gavin Hood Film
Protagonist(s): Hugh Jackman
Antagonist(s): Liev Schreiber, Danny Huston, Ryan Reynolds
Run-time: 1 hour 47 minutes
When two abused brothers discover that they heal from every injury and can extend sharp claws from their hands, they swear to always protect one another and manage to keep that promise for two centuries of fighting and warring, until one of them has had enough of the violence and seeks a life of tranquility. As with all good things; it never lasts.
This is a very entertaining film from start to end, and Liev Schreiber does the character of Sabretooth justice, even though it is one of the many inconsistencies from the previous X-Men films. That is something which peeves me about this series of films; inconsistency.
I will now list some of the inconsistencies, but blank them out to keep from spoiling the film for those who have not seen it. Read at your own risk.
Spoiler:
In the first film Wolverine is x-rayed, allowing us to see his skeleton, which is unmarred and flawless adamantium. Yet at the end of this film Striker supposedly makes a hole in the skull with an adamantium bullet. If that were the case then there would have been a hole in the adamantium skull where bone had filled in the gap; in other words an area of thinner density. There was not.
The second peeve is that adamantium is indestructible. If a bullet made from adamantium were to be shot at a skull covered in adamantium the bullet would according to my limited understanding of physics bounce off, not pierce. Wolverine might have been knocked unconscious from the force, but he would not have a bullet in his brain.
The third peeve is that they cannot get the original actors who portrayed the roles to come back to repeat them.
End Spoilers.
Despite these reasons, I recommend this film for Marvel enthusiasts, or more specifically; Wolverine enthusiasts.
Reviewing different things; food, films, music, books, games etc. It is said that those who can't do; teach. Those who can't teach; critique.
