A Chris Miller and Raman Hui Film
Protagonist(s): Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy, Antonio Banderas, Eric Idle, Justin Timberlake
Antagonist(s): Rupert Everett
Run-time: 1 hour 33 minutes
When the King of Far Far Away (John Cleese) takes ill, it is up to Shrek (Mike Myers) to choose between taking up the throne or finding the next heir in line. As he sets off on his quest, he is given some unexpected news which keeps his mind preoccupied.
I do not often poo-poo films, but I will make an exception in this case.
This is a completely unnecessary film. It is filled with poorly executed cliches and has seen no visible improvement in the appearance of the characters or the landscape. The plot is weak and only barely supported by wit, goofy costumes and the appearance of the insane wizard Merlin (Eric Idle), the cast seems like they don't really care any more, and the casting director seems desperate for the film to do well and so pulls in as many celebrity voices as they can get pressed into the hour and a half without seeming like a showcase for an award ceremony.
While the younger people in the audience might enjoy it, I do not.
