"Equilibrium" Review

"Equilibrium" Review

9/10

2002
A Kurt Wimmer Film
Protagonist(s): Christian Bale, William Fichtner
Antagonist(s): Angus Macfayden, Taye Diggs, Sean Pertwee
Run-time: 1 hour 47 minutes

In a society where emotion is illegal and considered the source of all evil, the people take a drug which inhibits emotions and all who refuse to take the drug are subjected to a trial and subsequent corporal punishment in the manner of witches; by fire. To find and arrest all violators the government trains special enforcers with the skills of a small army packed into singular individuals as the rebels tend to band together with weapons.

This is one of the many films of the last decade depicting an oppressed future for humanity.

The film introduced the concept of of "Gun-Fu" to the western world. The style of martial arts wherein the practitioners use their firearms for every kind of blunt trauma but not for their original intent.

I enjoy a good martial arts film as much as the next guy and there's not much I can complain about. The effects are good, the plot is simple, the acting talent is above par.

I recommend this film for any guys' night of violence.
