"Assassin's Creed III" Review
9/10
2012
Developer(s): Ubisoft Montreal
Publisher(s): Ubisoft
Genre(s): Action-adventure, stealth
Mode(s): Single-player, multiplayer
Following a lead found while in a coma, Desmond Miles and his crew track down an ancient underground complex, and need certain cube artefacts for unlocking the path to answers; answers which might save all human life on the planet from an approaching disaster. And clues lie in the genetic memory of Ratonhnhaké:ton his half blood native american Revolutionary War period ancestor.
First off, I'd like to state how I appreciate that Ubisoft rushes these games so they are finished roughly the same time each year. It is still a long wait, but one most of us can endure. However, knowing only a little of the world of Game Animation and Programming, I would say it would be better for the game if the studios had half a year more to develop each game.
Right, moving on.
The graphics have improved a little. The fighting mechanism has balanced out so the flow is more dynamic. The player can set traps for beasts and humans. Some influence seems to have come from "Red Dead Redemption" and "Skyrim" in that the player is capable of killing animals and harvest skins, meats or other parts for profit. The player can use 'free running' or parkour while in the forest by climbing trees or running up the slanted trunks of fallen trees to jump on to branches and so on.
The forest setting which is the focus of many bonus missions makes the game more challenging, as there aren't as many big things to hide behind or climb over to get a better look, so different tactics need to be evolved to manage. The developers were right to state that this character is more akin to the wolf than the eagle, as he spends most of his time running across ground and through snow.
And there is the additional element of sailing to contend with, having entire battles out at sea.
There are several things which are different, to sum it up.
It is in my opinion a 'must have' game.
Reviewing different things; food, films, music, books, games etc. It is said that those who can't do; teach. Those who can't teach; critique.
