"Antz" Review

"Antz" Review

7/10

1998
A Tim Johnson and Eric Darnell Film
Protagonist(s): Woody Allen, Sylvester Stallone, Sharon Stone
Antagonist(s): Gene Hackman
Run-time: 1 hour 23 minutes

A nondescript ant falls in love with the princess, and in his attempts at impressing her changes the social order of the colony and gets in the way of grander schemes.

The animation quality is excellent for its age, and is filled with plenty of 'insects-point-of-view' hilarity.

The normal neurotic antics of Woody Allen makes the main character all the more accepted as weak but filled with new ideas.

It came out roughly at the same time as "A Bug's Life" and though it may be unwarranted I do find it suspicious that different studios produce similar films at roughly the same time, and suspect there is quite a bit of leaking or espionage going on. That or an idea was pitched to two different studios and they both decided to make their own versions of a similar base idea and concept.

Still, recommended for family film nights.
