"WALL-E" Review

"WALL-E" Review

8/10

2008
An Andrew Stanton Film
Protagonist(s): Ben Burrt, Elissa Knight
Antagonist(s): MacInTalk
Run-time: 1 hour 38 minutes

In a distant future where mankind has left the Earth in the care of Waste Allocation Load Lifter- Earth-Class robots who had the sole task of cleaning up garbage. As time has passed WALL-E unit after WALL-E unit succumb to wear, tear and accidents. Now the only known unit has a task for which he was not created.

I find the name amusing, as the same name appears in a Simpsons episode as "Wall-E Weasel" (Possibly a Chuck-E Cheese spoof). But according to the trivia available it was really a nod at Walter Elias Disney.

This is a moving film in the same way as Short Circuit was moving, and it seems that the character design was based on the robot of the same film. But I cannot really point at a specific time frame of the film without spoiling it for those who have not seen it.

The effects and light comedy make up for the otherwise weak main story. I always find it amusing to see how much Pixar has improved from film to film and they certainly have come a long way since Toy Story.

The film is family friendly, but doesn't follow as many laws of physics as one might wish so do not bring a nit-picking physicist to see it.
