A Charles Shyer Film
Protagonist(s): Steve Martin, Diane Keaton, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Kieran Culkin, George Newbern, Martin Short
Run-time: 1 hour 45 minutes
When Sneaker Manufacturer George Banks (Steve Martin) finds out that his sweet little girl fell in love and became engaged while abroad, life takes a few unexpected twists and turns to get from the night the engagement was announced to the Wedding Night.
This film is a remake of the 1950 film starring Spencer Tracy, based on the 1949 novel by Edward Streeter. Overall there doesn't seem to be much change from one film to the next, other than an omitted strange dream sequence where Spencer Tracy tries to walk his daughter to the alter but starts sinking into the ground.
I can't say much about the plot without giving everything away, but George (Steve Martin) has issues with every idea which he did not have and though somewhat well off cringes at the costs, and finally is worried about things going right and how his daughter might view his actions or inactions concerning the vile man who stole his little girl.
I recommend this film, as long as the one you watch it with won't get ideas based on the overall theme.
