"Thor" Review

"Thor" Review

9/10

2011
A Kenneth Branagh
Protagonist(s): Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Stellan Skarsgård
Antagonist(s): Tom Hiddleston
Run-time: 1 hour 55 minutes

When a King is ready to retire, he must decide which of his two sons will take over. On the coronation of his eldest son a forced intrusion forces instead a banishment as a result of Thor (Chris Hemsworth) acting without thought in response to the intrusion.

For those of you familiar with Norse mythology, parts of this should sound familiar. There are glaring omissions, and then there are modifications. Of course, even though we had this subject in school I am far from an expert.

This version of Thor is based on the appearance of Ultimate Marvel's Thor, but with a more elaborate armour.

Mythological accuracy aside, the story is one of personal growth for the spoiled and short tempered Prince, and one of discovery for his wily and mischievous brother.

The start of this film overlaps with the end of "Iron Man 2", even though we never see it, and is part of the Avengers film universe.

For an evening of science fiction fantasy entertainment, it is ideal.
