"Malcolm in the Middle" Review

"Malcolm in the Middle" Review

9/10

2000
Created by Linwood Boomer
Protagonist(s): Frankie Muniz, Christopher Masterson, Jane Kaczmarek, Justin Berfield, Bryan Cranston, Erik Per Sullivan
Seasons on Air: 7
Episode run-time: 25 minutes

It's not easy to live in a dysfunctional family, but it's even harder for a child genius.

The overall comedy of this series is sound and most of it takes place off screen with only the results or witness reaction as indication of any mess.

For most of the series, Malcolm (Frankie Muniz) breaks the fourth wall by speaking directly to the viewer in a form of soliloquy which is unheard by those around him and which takes up a fraction of a second rather than actual time. However towards the end of the series, Malcolm appears less on screen and other members of his family come into focus.

It is one of my favourite series.
