2009
A James Cameron Film.
Protagonist: Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana
Antagonists: Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi
Run-time: 2 hours 42 minutes (plus an additional 16 minutes in special extended versions)
A damaged soldier is sent to a new world on a unique mission, and becomes entangled in the dispute between his people and the natives. He has to choose which side to take; the indiginous population who only defend their land or his people who want to take it at all costs.
It took me a shamefully long time to connect the dots and discover that this is essentially a retelling of Pocahontas on an interplanetary scale, but now that my eyes have been opened, I cannot help but draw parallells.
Regardless, the film is undoubtedly one of my favourites, and unlike the Disney version some years back has very little musical lyrics for the main characters to recite.
The effects are as close to perfect as present day technology allows, and the mechanics involved appear to be based in sound science (from my layman perspective).
It is well worth the near three hours of run-time, but it should be said that I do not recommend this film for those under the age of twelve due to the semi-graphic material.
Reviewing different things; food, films, music, books, games etc. It is said that those who can't do; teach. Those who can't teach; critique.

A change has been made in regards to the Adult status of the Blog, due to the reviews on Alcoholic Beverages, and some for the violent games and films reviewed. Wouldn't want to set a bad example.
