"Dredd" Review6/10
2012
A Pete Travis Film
Protagonist(s): Karl Urban, Olivia Thirlby
Antagonist: Lena Headey
Run-time: 1 hour 35 minutes
In a future overrun with lawlessness the judicial process has been shortened to include the jobs of Judge Jury and Executioner in the function of police officers. A new drug is circling the megacities, and Judge Dredd and Probationary Judge Anderson are dropped in the middle of it.
While it is more down to Earth than its predecessor "Judge Dredd" (1995), the villain and therefore the plot is nowhere near as engaging. Though is must be said that the main character was more compelling than when portrayed by Stallone.
The effects are excellent, though the super slow motion may be exaggerated in its use.
As said; the plot is very weak and is filled out by adding graphic hyper realistic destruction and violence.
While not a complete waste of time it is more of an effect film than an actual story. I only recommend this for times when senseless destruction and gore are wanted.
