A Tom Wirkola Film
Protagonist(s): Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton

Run-time: 1 hour 28 minutes (1 hour 38 minutes in extended version)
At some point we have all heard the tale of Hansel and Gretel who were left in the woods by their parents and found by a bad witch. But what happened after that story ended?
This is a film which speculates on the events following those described in the fairytale, and also speculates on some of the reasons things transpired as they did.
The setting is a 'shitty' village very loosely based on Germany of a few centuries ago in the same way as Shrek was based on the same period. That is to say, only in appearance with plenty of references which have no place in that time period, not to mention the arsenal of weaponry which looks like Steampunk clockwork versions of modern weapons.
The plot is barely existent, but is padded out with plenty of violence, suggestive imagery without revealing too much, and gory effects. The 'texture' of the film is very gritty and dirty, which is likely deliberate to give the appearance of realism in this exaggerated world.
In short, this is an effect film with some humour, tantalizing glimpses of flesh, and plenty of blood splattered everywhere at seemingly random times.
If you cannot handle seeing some disgusting things and humans falling apart in numerous ways, this is not the film for you.
