"The Secret Garden" Review
8/10
1911
Written By: Frances Hodgson Burnett
Published By: Frederick A. Stokes (US), Heinemann (UK)
Protagonist(s): Mary Lennox
When the sickly and spoiled girl Mary Lennox is orphaned, she is sent back from India to Britain to live with her Uncle. Unlike her servants in India, the servants at Misselthwaite Manor are not as accommodating to her whims, so she has to learn to do things for herself.
The storytelling of the book is perfect for any age, though possibly written in a format which is a little too advanced for today's children even though it was considered Children's Literature and still is in the classical sense. There is just enough whimsy to keep the mood light and easy despite touching on somewhat serious issues, at least seen from the eyes of a child.
What annoys me a little about this wonderful book, is that in the last few chapters the focus is shifted from Mary to the group of children to her cousin. There is no closure on a few of the points which might have needed it, which had me consulting other issues of the book to make sure I had the complete version before finding that I did.
While ending happily, there were still a few loose ends, which robbed the rating of two points.
I still recommend this book to any who wish to have something more or less lighthearted to read.
Reviewing different things; food, films, music, books, games etc. It is said that those who can't do; teach. Those who can't teach; critique.

A change has been made in regards to the Adult status of the Blog, due to the reviews on Alcoholic Beverages, and some for the violent games and films reviewed. Wouldn't want to set a bad example.
