"Dearly Devoted Dexter" Review

"Dearly Devoted Dexter" Review

9/10

2005
Written By: Jeff Lindsay
Protagonist(s): Dexter Morgan

After the family reunion with his long absent older brother, also known as the Tamiami Slasher, Dexter has been the subject of closer scrutiny by his long time nemesis Sergeant Doakes. When a living man missing arms, legs, genitals, and any other distinguishing features is found, Dexter gets his chance to study another Monster at work.

I will state immediately that this book has no ties with the television series based on the first novel other than a few character names.

The witty inner commentaries of Dexter have gotten slightly better, though improvement was unnecessary it is appreciated. There is even the addition of a typical situation comedy event which has not been resolved to its full dramatic potential, but which will likely resurface at some point in the book series.

The subject of intrigue for this novel is 'Doctor Danco', named for a kitchen utensil of some sort because of how he tortures his victims. The police has little to do with the main plot other than kick starting and supporting it.

I truly recommend this book for anyone with a slight fascination with the macabre.
