"R.I.P.D." Review
09/10
2013
A Robert Schwentke Film
Protagonist(s): Jeff Bridges, Ryan Reynolds, Mary-Louise Parker
Antagonist(s): Kevin Bacon
Run-time: 1 hour 36 minutes
When a police officer is killed by his partner in a big drug bust, he his headed for judgement when he is intercepted and finds himself recruited by the Rest In Peace Department. Rather than risk being judged solely on his checkered past, he accepts the position which will buy him a good word in return for arresting or erasing escaped souls hiding amongst the living.
This is a classic 'buddy' and 'cop' film where either part can't stand one another at the start, but eventually start to grow on one another; helped along by dangerous enemies, jokes, and apocalyptic disaster.
The concept of post-life police is hardly a new one, and if stretched one could compare it with the Anime; Bleach, where trained professionals after death reap stray souls. Their 'disguise' is also the source of much amusement, as the living and rogue souls see only the disguise while the other R.I.P.D. members see their real selves.
The plot is good, the acting talent is excellent, the effects are mostly excellent even if the animated characters tend to stand out.
I recommend this film for any science fiction or fantasy fan. And it is also worth watching only for the cowboy act put forth by Jeff Bridges.
Reviewing different things; food, films, music, books, games etc. It is said that those who can't do; teach. Those who can't teach; critique.

A change has been made in regards to the Adult status of the Blog, due to the reviews on Alcoholic Beverages, and some for the violent games and films reviewed. Wouldn't want to set a bad example.
