"Stargate SG-1" Review Season 03, Episode 03, Fair Game

When Colonel O'Neill is mysteriously abducted while holding a speech in the wake of Captain Carter's promotion to Major, appearing on an alien ship which turns out to be Asgard, he is informed by Thor that the Goa'uld System Lords are willing to negotiate concerning the subject of making Earth a protected planet. However, not only are the Goa'uld easy to upset but the price of the protection may be too steep.

This episode introduces a few new Goa'uld, and reveals the existence of a device which can make the wearer invisible.

The Goa'uld introduced will all make appearances later in the series.

The cloak of invisibility will appear later, and has been shown earlier even though it was not named as such a device until now. Hathor, to name one, had such technology but it was used in areas of dense smoke or energy barriers which camouflage entrances and as such might not have immediately come across as an invisibility device. The invisible wearer can be seen with the same devices which allow Reetou to be seen.

The episode also reveals that the Asgard, while formidable, are engaged in war elsewhere and are therefore not able to enforce the treaty.

The plot is good, the acting talent is good, and the special effects are good and well integrated; this includes the puppet which represents the Asgard Thor. The Asgard transportation beam resembles a better executed version of the transport from Star Trek.
