"Stargate SG-1" Review Season 01, Episode 01, Children of the Gods

When a group of aliens pass through the Stargate hidden in the Cheyenne Mountain complex, Colonel Jonathan 'Jack' O'Neill is recalled into active duty to discover the whys and wheres and hows of the incursion. With the help of specialists and scientists, the United States Air Force discovers that unlike the previous assumption the Stargate went to more planets than Abydos.

As the pilot episode, the run time is twice the normal episode length, which can be a little boring for a normal fast paced society. But being reintroduced to the characters from the film, introduced to new characters, and presented with different information than presented in the film will make up for the length.

The acting talent has yet to be accustomed to their characters, so not everything is quite perfect in that regard.

The majority of the effects are limited to weapons fire, wormhole event horizon and one or two flying gliders. Some animatronics have gone into making the parasites move, but not much.

The plot is engaging, and good enough to lay the ground work for the rest of the series.
