When the Serenity comes across a derelict, its crew takes the opportunity to search it for salvage and come across more trouble than they want.
This is the first episode where River Tam shows that there is more to her oddity than madness as she senses danger and hears ghosts. It is also the first showing of the work of the mysterious and feared Reavers, revealing some ingenuity and craftiness rather than mindless violence and mayhem.
The back story and plot is excellent, as is the acting talent.
