"Assassin's Creed: The Secret Crusade" Review

"Assassin's Creed: The Secret Crusade" Review

9/10

2011
Written By: Oliver Bowden
Published By: Penguin Books
Protagonist(s): Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad

In the thirteenth century, on the cusp of yet another Mongolian invasion, Niccolo Polo and his brother are regaled with the life story of a Master Assassin, and entrusted with a special and important task.

While not the first book in the series, it is the book which follows the plot of the first Assassin's Creed game, with additional information and shortened events. Detailing every little mission available to the player and the consequences thereof would have taken upwards of seven books of the same size.

The book is a little slow to start with, but picks up speed after two or three chapters. However I suspect the book was written more aimed at the fans of the game series rather than those who have not yet been initiated into this alternate reality of Assassins and Templars and ancient human civilizations of extreme technological advancement.

The style of writing is very well balanced between descriptive details, dialogue and action, making for very vivid imagery before the mind's eye.

I recommend this book for anyone who do not mind some bloodshed described in detail, and those who enjoyed the game.
