"Total Recall" Review

"Total Recall" Review

8/10

1990
A Paul Verhoeven Film
Protagonist(s): Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rachel Ticotin
Antagonist(s): Michael Ironside, Ronny Cox, Sharon Stone
Run-time: 1 hour 53 minutes

When construction worker Douglas Quaid (Arnold Schwarzenegger) feels like having an adventure he visits a Rekall facility to experience a simulated secret agent alien artifact adventure on Mars. However, during his imprint procedure something in his head triggered an overload and he is set on an adventure similar in design to the one he ordered.

What intrigues me about the film is the following; did he order the adventure because something buried in his mind made him choose it, or is what we see merely the adventure he ordered made to fit his memories?

While I enjoy a good Schwarzenegger film, I think that Bruce Willis could have done a better job in that part. But rather than continue complaining about casting choices I shall continue with the review.

The effects are excellent for its day. The plot is so twisted you could serve it as a pretzel or some such knotted bread. The physics may be 'iffy'. The acting talent is balanced.

I recommend this film for conspiracy theory film enthusiasts or science fiction enthusiasts.
