"The Legend of Bagger Vance" Review

"The Legend of Bagger Vance" Review

9/10

2000
A Robert Redford Film
Protagonist(s): Will Smith, Matt Damon, Charlize Theron, Jack Lemmon, Lane Smith, Bruce McGill, Joel Gretsch
Run-time: 2 hours 6 minutes

When the Depression drives her father to suicide, Adele Invergordon (Charlize Theron) makes a desperate bid to save her inherited Golf Resort by holding a golf exhibition match between the two biggest names in the sport and the best local player.

The Depression seems to be a near endless source of inspiration for films and books. And actors seem to enjoy portraying characters from that era.

The acting talent is excellent. The effects are good. The plot is the classic underdog tale, with a deceptively talented assistant/mentor to drive the underdog forward. There are several humorous quotes and situations.

I recommend this film for anyone who enjoy watching an apparently clueless prodigy meandering about while doing good deeds.
