"Stargate" Review

"Stargate" Review

8/10

1994
A Roland Emmerich Film
Protagonist(s): Kurt Russell, James Spader
Antagonist(s): Jaye Davidson
Run-time: 2 hours 1 minute

In 1928, a strange metal ring is unearthed at Giza in Egypt, protected by a heavy cover stone covered in inscriptions which is only partly understandable as hieroglyphs. The ring is studied in secret for decades until in 1994 Catherine Langford (Viveca Lindfors) recruited to the project a linguist archaeologist with some insane ideas about the pyramids (James Spader). The moment he unlocked the meaning behind the series of cryptic symbols he sets in motion a chain of events the likes of which have not been seen.

This is a very interesting take on the conspiracy theories surrounding the mysterious pyramids, and though I'm uncertain as to the scientific validity involved in the wormholes displayed it is very entertaining.

What more is the entertainment value of watching a group of Earthlings attempting to establish communication with the primitive human locals on another world, and the misunderstandings which arise.

The effects are excellent, the acting talent is above par, and the plot is acceptable.

I recommend this film for anyone who enjoys the science fiction genre.
