"Spider-Man 3" Review

"Spider-Man 3" Review

7/10

2006
A Sam Raimi Film
Protagonist(s): Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst
Antagonist(s): James Fanco, Thomas Haden Church, Topher Grace
Run-time: 2 hours 19 minutes

Bad things like accidents seldom travel alone, as is proven then a meteor crashes to deposit a parasitic organism in Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire), his best friend turns into a raving psychopath, a newcomer at the news paper vies for his boss' attention and a grainy man starts a crime spree.

First off, I will point out that there are too many villains in this film. Three is a bit over the top, especially when one of them first has to be fought off from within and then from outside.

The interpretation of Marco Flint (Thomas Haden Church) also seems a tad wrong to me, as the original was not quite as sympathetic to the audience.

But despite the chaos of villains on every side and girl trouble on top of it, this is an interesting film to watch. The effects are good, the acting talent is balanced between good and bad, the plot is intricately woven but could easily have been spread across three films.

I would recommend this film for Marvel enthusiasts if for no other reason than to point out flaws in background, personalities and powers compared to the mainstream universe.
