"Independence Day" Review

"Independence Day" Review

9/10

1996
A Roland Emmerich Film
Protagonist(s): Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Randy Quaid
Run-time: 2 hours 25 minutes

For decades Man has looked for signs of alien life, but now it has found Us and we are in for the fight of our lives.

The classic "War of the Worlds" scenario; they came to destroy, and we are hopelessly outmatched by superior technology.

The effects are awesome, the plot is simple but with a somewhat odd and oddly assumed solution. The acting talent is good.

Instead of going completely digital this film used scaled model buildings suspended upside down for the explosion scenes so they wouldn't look like mushroom clouds. And the assumed death toll is amazing and even comes close to surpassing the death toll from "Star Wars: A New Hope".

I recommend this film if you enjoy watching people fighting off the seemingly inevitable destruction of humanity.
