"Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" Review

"Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" Review

8/10

1988
A Frank Oz Film
Protagonist(s): Michael Caine, Steve Martin, Glenne Headly
Run-time: 1 hour 50 minutes

When the sophisticated and educated swindler Lawrence Jamieson (Michael Caine) has his territory encroached upon by a less refined con man named Freddy Benson (Steve Martin) he initially seeks to drive him out, but decides it is better to teach him the trade so he can move away and stake out a territory of his own far from his.

This is a remake of the 1964 film "Bedtime Story". There is a single letter difference in the names, but the film is not accredited as a remake even though it closely follows its plot.

That aside, the comedy is mostly physical; relying on amusing facial expressions and practical jokes to produce giggles.

The story is convoluted, but very entertaining despite the lack of explosions, gun fire and massive fights.

I recommend this film for any comedy film night.
