"Toys" Review

"Toys" Review

6/10

1992
A Barry Levinson Film
Protagonist(s): Robin Williams, Joan Cusack
Antagonist(s): Michael Gambon
Run-time: 1 hour 58 minutes

When an army General inherits a toy factory he seeks to eliminate his competition by shifting the theme from safe and friendly toys to war toys and games. His immature adult nephew and a few of the other employees set out to save the good name of Zevo Toys.

For some reason this film speaks to me. Perhaps my inner child wishes it had the product tester job as demonstrated in the film.

The quality of the film is okay, but there is an indefinable something which is missing. There might be a little too much insanity for a film which isn't under the genre of crazy comedy.

Overall this is just a film where Robin Williams is allowed to go wild. But there is an underlying message; it doesn't matter what is the original purpose of an object, it can still be successfully put to military or violent use.

I recommend this film for families with children under thirteen.
