"Stardust" Review

"Stardust" Review

9/10

2007
A Matthew Vaughn Film
Protagonist(s): Charlie Cox, Claire Danes, Robert De Niro
Antagonist(s): Michelle Pfeiffer
Narrator: Ian McKellen
Run-time: 2 hours 7 minutes

When a clumsy Shop-boy vows to find and return to the girl he intends to woo a falling star, he crosses into a land of magic.

This film is a classic tale of growth and development with the additional element of magic to make things more complicated.

I enjoy the general plot line of this film, and though I have not read the book yet it is on my list of future reading material. This would not be the first book I have been clued in on from a film.

The acting is convincing, the effects are good and not too emphasized when they are meant to blend in which means they don't stand out as much. That isn't to say that there are no spectacular effects, as there are several magical battles and even sword fights.

But if for nothing else, the film is worth watching for the performance of Mr De Niro.

If you feel like losing yourself in a world of magic and light comedy for two hours this is the film for you.
