"Forrest Gump" Review

"Forrest Gump" Review

10/10

1994
A Robert Zemeckis
Protagonist(s): Tom Hanks, Sally Fields, Robin Wright, Gary Sinise
Run-time: 2 hour 22 minutes

The less than intelligent Forrest Gump has spent his life following the wisdom of his mother and vying for the love of Jenny, his only childhood friend, and is more than willing to share in his life.

I sympathise with the character, living with bullies and the general hazing accompanied with being different. Fortunately he has a mother who loves him and goes above and beyond to secure him the education he should have and then advise him when he is depressed.

The narration is an excellent touch to what would normally have been a somewhat boring and amusing film, increasing the quality. And the sequence of events being explained makes the story more compelling than if it had been a simple point A to point B plot.

What more, the main character takes part in large and small historic events of his day without realizing it, almost with a child-like innocence which is not expected of a Vietnam veteran. He cluelessly moves through history, focusing more on his love for Jenny and personal relations.

It is without a doubt among my top twenty favourite films.

I recommend this film.
