"District 9" Review

"District 9" Review

9/10

2009
A Neill Blomkamp Film
Protagonist(s): Shartlo Copley
Run-time: 1 hour 52 minutes

In 1982 mankind made contact with aliens as their ship came to hover over Johannesburg, but they weren't quite as intelligent as we imagined them to be, yet were in possession of powerful technology. Now a government agent is exposed to some of their biotechnology and becomes a target for his own people.

This is a very interesting film, which takes a different view on the entire alien encounter scenario that I'm sure scientists and film makers have imagined.

There are plenty of logical deductions as to the biology of the aliens, and the leap that only a few select of them are intelligent while the others are more or less ruled by instincts and the commands of the intelligent ones.

It is also refreshing to see that this is not an idealised view of humanity when it comes to how we would have treated the aliens.

The effects and integration of the Computer Generated Imagery are amazing, as is the acting talent.

I recommend this film for any science fiction fan.
