Orion Hotel Review
Faliraki, Rhodes, Greece
23 - 28 July 2012
The hotel is located at the East end of the town center, and has a restaurant and bar which is part of it.
The reception is staffed at all times of the day, so if there are any concerns or questions it is only a short stroll or call away.
Located in between the reception and the bar is a large swimming pool, a wading pool and a jaccuzzi surrounded by sun chairs and parasols. It is open from 08:00 to 24:00 to the customers of the hotel, restaurant or bar. This is a very good place to cool off during the hotter weeks of the year. Be warned that some women may feel the urge to sunbathe without a top on, so the occasional bare breast is not unexpected.
The staff is accomodating and pleasant. If there is time, the staff will strike up a conversation should they perceive that such an act is welcome.
Cleanliness is very good. All rooms are cleaned once a day. This includes turning down the bed(s), emptying the garbage and replacing the towels. Luggage and guests' personal things are left alone.
Security is good. If the customer wishes, the reception has lock boxes available for rent, but the staff is tightly regulated so if something should go missing they will have a very short list of suspects.
The rooms have air conditioning, but unless it has been previously requested and paid, it costs an additional 5 Euro per night to run it. Some rooms even have cut-off switch which shuts down the air conditioner when the balcony door opens. The room keys have a special recess in the wall which turns on the power to the room when inserted and turns it off when the key is removed.
Noise, or merely the excessive noise, is not tolerated and will result in eviction of the offending party.
The rooms have a small kitchenette, complete with a hot plate, sink, cabinets and a small refrigerator. Unfortunately there are no pots or pans with which to prepare meals. But perhaps this is because the owners of the hotel wishes its customers to dine in the restaurant.
The bathroom has shower and bath possibilities. However, it is poorly ventilated, so unless the door is open it will get very hot and clammy very quickly.
The bathroom of my room had ill fitting light fixtures which left a gap between the light and the ceiling. A switch near the ceiling over the bath was not completely installed, hanging by its wires. I did not dare go near it as I did not know what it did or if it was safe to touch in such a humid room.
I enjoyed my stay at the Orion Hotel, and when I return to Faliraki at some point in the future, I will be sure to reserve a room at this hotel.
