"Tannhäuser" Review

"Tannhäuser" Review

8/10

2007
Publisher(s): Fantasy Flight (current), Take On You (former)
Genre: Board game
Mode(s): Multiplayer (2-10 players)

This dice driven strategy board game takes place in the year 1949 in an alternate universe where the occult has far greater yields and World War 1 never ended, resulting in characters who have a rather steam punk look about them, or who look like they have been dragged from the bowels of old science fiction horror films and novels.

The mechanics are simple enough; there are several factions with predetermined characters, each with their own skill set and selection of equipment. What drives the game forwards is strategy and luck of the ten-sided dice. At the start of each round, each faction will roll one dice to determine who will open that round, and it pays to be the first to move.

The standard board has two sides, one in a castle going through different rooms and corridors, the other twisting and turning through the catacombs beneath it.

In all a good and entertaining game for those with a head for strategy and statistics, and very confusing for those who do not possess such things.

I recommend this game for any hardcore board gamer.
