"Man of Steel" Review

"Man of Steel" Review

08/10

2013
A Zack Snyder Film
Protagonist(s): Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Russell Crowe, Kevin Costner
Antagonist(s): Michael Shannon, Antje Traue
Run-time: 2 hours 23 minutes

When their world is fated to die, the lead scientist and his wife choose to save their people by sending their son to a distant world. For thirty-three years he managed to hide amongst the population whilst searching for clues to his origin, and when he finds it he finds more than he bargained for.

Yet another in a long line of alternate universes where the original Superman is tweaked and altered to be more contemporary and the science involved more believable. The past twenty or so years has seen plenty of different versions off the printed page, all aimed at different yet intersecting audience groups.

What I like about this relaunch is the organic art nouveau style of decorations, and the aquatic and insect-like designs of ships. The reception of the altered costume has been mixed. A few have embraced it, some tolerate it, but most seem borderline outraged at the lack of red trunks and yellow 'S' on the cape.

I am fascinated with the armours and Kryptonian technology, and though I am more of a Marvel man, I enjoy the film and prefer it when the Man of Steel remembers that underwear doesn't go on the outside.

I recommend this film for DC fans who enjoy the genre more than the costume.
