"Yes Minister" Review

"Yes Minister" Review

9/10

1980
Created by Antony Jay and Jonathan Lynn
Protagonist(s): Paul Eddington, Nigel Hawthorne, Derek Fowlds
Seasons on Air: 3
Episode Run-time: 30 minutes

When the James Hacker (Paul Eddington) becomes the Minister for the Department of Administrative Affairs he believes he'll make a big difference in the running of the country. Had he known how the Civil Service operated he wouldn't have been quite as optimistic.

While the comedy involved in the series is a bit dry for many, it is typical British humour. The calm and collected tone and presence while delivering a line in almost incomprehensible phrasing is what makes the witticisms so amusing.

But the series isn't only fun and games, it also gives insight into the workings of government and politics; though in an amusing and dry way.

It is said that this was the favourite Television programme of the then Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, and I do not find it difficult to agree. I watch this once or twice a year.

So in short, this series is recommended if you want to learn about politics without reading thick and dusty tomes.
