"The Book of Eli" Review

2010
A Hughes Brothers Film
Protagonist: Denzel Washington
Antagonist: Gary Oldman
Run-time: 1 hour 53 minutes

In a post-apocalyptic world; a prophet walks the roads on a pilgrimage to restore the word of God as he believes has been told to do.

The effects are decent, the textures are dirty and gritty as befitting of the film genre, and the story is sound with a simple and ominous explanation for how the world went under without going into too much detail or the use of flashbacks.

In short, the story is of a wanderer in a desert land full of thieves, murderers, cannibals, dictators and victims. He doesn't really care much for the fate of others, but ends up saving a few innocent lives while taking a lot of not-so-innocent ones.

There is a lot of violence, a bit of gore and on a few occasions there is suggested rape, so it is not a film for the squeamish.

Overall an excellent film with more than a few surprises.

The film is a great way to waste two hours.
